Small Wind Turbine Installation Workshop

What will you Learn? 

During this two-day workshop we will prepare and install a residential-sized wind turbine on a 50' tower and connect it to a storage system. The 2-day course is perfect for beginner and intermediate wind power enthusiasts and professionals. If you are a homeowner thinking of installing a solar or wind system, this course will give you the basics to evaluate various systems, your location, and get a clear picture of the components and costs. The course will include:

  • Basic wind theory, including power conversion from mechanical to electrical energy
  • Understanding the type of power that comes out of a wind turbine and what you need to do to prepare it for use in your home.
  • The basics of electrical power, AC & DC power systems, diversion load controllers, on/off controllers, diversion load design, batteries, inverters, monitoring and analysis.
  • Wind turbine testing and trouble-shooting.
  • Tilt up tower assembly and erection. SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS. Tools and equipment.
  • Basic electrical formulas and equations will be introduced. Bring your calculator. A text will be included in the workshop.

About Windhorse Farm

Windhorse Farm, on the LaHave River upstream from Bridgewater, is a 169 year-old experiment in sustainability. Well-known for demonstrating and teaching land stewardship practices, Windhorse has recently begun to focus on methods for mitigating climate change. One of its four climate stabilization programs is clean generation of electrical energy.

Facilities at Windhorse Farm include sauna, fire circles, canoes and 20 kilometres of trails through the 250 acre pristine forest.

Each night participants can lay down the tools, get together around the fire, eat delicious food, play music, and get to know eachother.

Private camping: for those wishing to keep costs as low as possible, participants are welcome to bring their own tents at a cost of $10/day for facilities and camping space. The program cost for private camping is $260

What is the Cost?  

All facilities: sauna, canoes, nature walks, optional contemplative activities, tours etc. are provided, as are all meals.

Private Accommodation option: $425 / ($450 after September 15th). Includes single occupancy accommodation in one of Windhorses private cabins.

Indoor option: $295 / ($345 after September 15th). Includes double-occupancy accommodation in Sunshine House. For single occupancy accommodation, contact Windhorse Farm for prices.

Private camping: $260 / ($295 after September 15th) which includes full program, all meals, and facilities fees.
